For Managing Growth
to Protect Our Future, Berkley Needs Your Vote.
Good town
government requires an open mind and good planning! Please consider
the facts and Berkley’s future. The town needs to protect itself from unregulated development of heavy industrial mining in residential areas. We must
protect local residents, preserve property values and retain our rural
character.
Attend the Berkley
Town Meeting on Monday, June 22 at the Berkley Community School and vote “Yes” on Article 37, which would allow
the town to plan where to allow the development of heavy industrial quarrying
operations in Berkley.
FACT: Laws that regulate development in town are good
government, not anti-business. In 2007, the town’s voters approved town
zoning to allow for controlled development.
FACT: This article is a
clarification of existing town zoning. It does not prohibit business or industry
in the town. It seeks to ensure that heavy industrial mining, which can have
great impact on surrounding homes, are not
sited in residential areas.
FACT: Article 37 will
protect ALL residential
neighborhoods in town. Berkley has
other open parcels of land that could similarly be targeted for development not
just the property owned by Cape Cod Aggregates.
FACT: Article 37 does not affect HOME OCCUPATION as described in
town Zoning By-laws on page 22 of 57.
Visit our website for the definitions of home occupation, industry, and
Section 4.A Residential District including the Prohibited Uses that this
article addresses.
FACT: Quarry operations
ARE heavy industry that generate lots of
noise, dust, vibrations, heavy truck traffic and the potential for significant
damage to homes and wells.
FACT: Passing Article 37 DOES NOT result in a
40B. The permit for a 40B on that plot
of land owned by CCA has expired.
FACT: Our financial
situation will not improve by
allowing unregulated development of heavy industries that put residents at
risk, affect the quality of life and lower property values. Not to mention
how it will affect our roads and municipal services.
Stand up for good
government, responsible planning and protecting Berkley’s future. Vote YES on
Article 37.
