One Week To The Next Soil Board Meeting

One Week <= span class=3DGramE>To The Next Soil Board Meeting!!=

The signs we ordered to replace those that were taken down last week by the Hig= hway Department are expected to be ready for pickup today. If you would like a replacement sign for your yard or your friends and neighbors, please email = us your request. We are stepping up our efforts to have them just as visible, = if not more so, as we did prior to this removal.

Last week some neighbors attended the Selectmen’s meeting to make them awa= re of the sign removal and were requested to return to tonight’s meeting= to allow them to contact the Highway Surveyor to attend as well. We are primar= ily concerned with the signs that were removed from private property, and those that were placed alongside other types of signs such as election signs where only our signs were removed.

We are determined to show the town boards, once again, of the opposition to the Quarry that Cape Cod Aggregates is proposing for our town. In order to do that in the next 7 = days, we will need some help getting the information out once again to our reside= nts.

The project has not gone away because the signs were taken down!

Any assistance would be appreciated! Even if you send a few emails, make a few phone calls, or speak to a= few friends that can be significant as the information is spread to others R= 11; we still have people come up to us saying that they have not heard about the Quarry!

If you have friends in Assonet, let them know as well. If this permit is appro= ved, CCA will be going back to Free= town for another permit similar to the one they are requesting here!=

Other efforts could be to pass out flyers at locations throughout town, deliver signs, collect petition signatures, etc. If you attend any of the athletic events in town, that is a great venue to pass along the information. In addition, a p= hone call or email to the Soil Board, and Board of Selectmen is important. The Selectmen’s office is 508-824-6794, and the = Soil Board is 508-882-8677.

Please ask an= yone you speak with to attend the next Soil Board hearing on Tuesday, May 13th at 7:15 p.m. There is strength in numbers and the attendance we have had in the past has gotten the attention of town officials. We need to continue this effort to reinforce that this project will affect the entire community either immediately, or in the future. It is a known fact that wells do b= ecome contaminated from this type of operation.
